Another day, another cafe opening. This time round, is the ultra spacious Au79 located in Abbotsford, lined with gold and luscious greenery throughout the cafe. Oh, and when I say spacious, I do mean SPACIOUS.

Today, I caught up with my dearest Maggie (go check out her blog: http://www.theycallmemaggie.com) for brunch. Within 10-15 minutes waiting, we were ushered by a waitress to the ‘back’ section (I will explain the story behind the inverted comas later) of the cafe where we sat amongst the most gorgeous greenery and near the second coffee making section.

After stalking instagram photos of au79, and deliberating for a good 5 minutes, we placed our order. Maggie ordered her favourite – smashed avocado, while I settled for the smoked bonito croquettes, and we also ordered the granola to share.

Within 10-15 minutes of ordering our food arrived. These days, every cafe has their own version of smashed avocado, and trying to out do each other by making it prettier and very instaworthy. For au79, theres is spruced up with bright orange dukkah, and bright pink rice crisp. I took a bite of it, and enjoyed the added texture of the rice crisp.

As for my smoked bonito croquettes – they may not be the most appealing looking croquettes, I actually enjoyed it. The croquettes were moist and the bonito coating was not burnt at all, although it did not have much of a bonito taste. The croquettes were well complimented with small creamy pieces of avocado (probably 1/4 of an avocado), charred corn and pickled cabbage. The mojo sauce gave it a slight spicy edge to the dish.

The muesli was golden crispy mixed with different dried fruit (cranberries and apricots (?), and I enjoyed the creamy banana custard that was smeared at the bottom of the bowl.

Overall, both Maggie and I had a great experience – the staff were friendly and courteous (even before we took our cameras out), and the food was enjoyable. The only thing that au79 could improve on is the payment experience. The cafe is very big, and none of the tables were numbered – so when we went up to pay, it took a good 5 minutes to explain where we were seated. When we mentioned the middle section, they weren’t able to find our table. It was only when we walked the waitress to our table, we were then told that we were actually seated in the back section. Aside from that, I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this cafe – as the interior is so beautiful and spacious.
